August 29 In Season at the Market
Buying and eating in season produce is good for your nutrition and helps the economy, our seasonal updates are here to lend a hand.
Let us inspire you with just a few of the fresh, locally grown produce now in season at the South Australia Produce Market that you will find at your local fruit and veg store.
Kirkwood Red Navel
The South Australian citrus season is still providing us all with some great fruit options packed with Vitamin C and perfect for lunch boxes. This week we are seeing great supplies of the Kirkwood Red Navel Orange. These sweet navels are easy to peel, have a slight red to their flesh and are sweet and tasty. A great variety to mix up your fruit basket this week.
Broccoli
It is great to see the supply of this vitamin packed veg back in steady supply in South Australia this week providing an opportunity for us all to put them back in the weekly basket buy. High in vitamins C and K, broccoli is a healthy addition to any dish from a tasty side on your Sunday Roast to a crunchy addition raw in a salad or a staple in your stir fry.
Missile Apples
Sourced from Lenswood in the Adelaide Hills, missile apples have the perfect balance between crunchiness and juiciness, perfect for an on-the-go snack. With a bright red skin these pocket-sized apples comparable in size to a mandarin or kiwifruit present the perfect serving size and are an ideal addition to kid’s lunch boxes. There is great supply of missile apples at the market so keep an eye out for them in store this week!
Cauliflowers
Grown in the northern Adelaide plains, this vegetable does not have to travel far before landing on the plates of metro Adelaide families. We grow some amazing cauliflower in South Australia and now is a great time to add it to the menu. If you have never tried cauliflower mash – you will be surprised how great a substitute or change this is from the standard potato staple. Mash up the cauliflower and add some olive oil, salt and pepper and let your tastebuds enjoy!
