Flat Beans

Did you know that flat beans are one of the healthiest vegetables for your heart.  A good source of vitamin A, K, C, proteins and folate, flat beans boost your heart health by reducing the risk of iron deficiencies.  These beans are known as runner beans with edible pods and have a characteristic wide and flat shape.  Sometimes, they are often referred to as Helda or Romano beans and can be used raw in salads to provide a beautiful crunch or can also be steamed, grilled or sauteed.  Look out for healthy flat beans at your local fruit and veg store to include in your weekly meals.

Cocktail Potatoes

Cocktail potatoes are not a variety of potatoes but refer to the size of the potatoes.  Cocktails are generally a small Nadine potato or a similar variety and have a white flesh and skin.  These bite sized beauties are amazing roasted, steamed, crushed or boiled and also perfect for potato salad because of their size.  Basically, cocktail potatoes can be used in the same manner as their larger counterparts and are great for entertaining as this size potatoes make perfect trays of crushed or crispy. smashed potatoes which your guests will devour.

Lemons

This week we are focusing on lemons which are locally grown in both the Riverland and Adelaide Hills! Rich in vitamin C and antioxidants which boost immunity and promote heart, digestive and liver health, lemons have amazing health benefits and are extremely versatile.  Try squeezing one into your morning cup of tea or adding a few slices to your glass of water to give it a refreshing taste! There is plenty of supply with great colour and flavour, so now is the best time to add some of these tangy delights to your shopping basket

Silverbeet

How many times have you heard – “you need to eat your greens”?   Well, silverbeet is a green that you should definitely include in your diet. Silverbeet is naturally high in antioxidants and polyphenols and contain a powerful antioxidant that reduces the toxic load of the liver. Silverbeet which is often confused with English spinach is more versatile and easier to grow here in Australia as it is more heat tolerant.  Silverbeet varies in appearance and may be green or green with red stems and veins and can be enjoyed steamed, sauteed or stir fried.
