Bananas

This Wednesday, 16th October, is “National Banana Day”. As we celebrate the wonderful banana, who doesn’t love the sweet taste and convenient, ready to go healthy snack that is suitable for the whole family to enjoy.  Bananas are packed full of essential vitamins and minerals with potassium being the front runner.  When you are shopping this week at your local fruit and veg store, be sure to add bananas to your shopping basket and enjoy!  As their shape indicates, they are sure to put a smile on your face – Happy National Banana Day!

Mashing Potatoes

Mashing potatoes are perfect to use to whip up mashed potatoes as a side to compliment many meals for the whole family to enjoy! Red Onion

Who doesn’t have the staple red onion in their pantry?  These purplish-red onions are available all year round, and they are such a versatile vegetable that can be eaten raw in many salads, salsas and dips or sauteed in stir fry, fajitas, pastas and pizzas. You can also “pickle” red onion which is delicious on sandwiches and burgers.  The options are endless! The health benefits of the trusty red onion is also impressive with red onions being full of sulphur compounds that protect the body from ulcers and they can also fight bacteria in the urinary tract.  Be sure to include these in your weekly shop to add flavour and zest to your weekly meals.
