Oct 21 In Season at the SA Produce Market
Buying and eating in season produce is good for your nutrition and helps the economy, our seasonal updates are here to lend a hand.
Let us inspire you with just a few of the fresh, locally grown produce now in season at the South Australia Produce Market that you will find at your local fruit and veg store.
Nectarines
South Australian stone fruits are being picked in the Riverland right now and have arrived at the markets. Nectarines are a smooth skinned peach so for those that don’t like that fuzzy texture and want a slightly sweeter fruit they are a great alternative. Nectarines are versatile, you can use them in both sweet and savoury dishes and are great for a pop of colour in your salads.
Cherries
Stone fruits are back in season, and the first crop of South Australian cherries has just arrived fresh from the Riverland! While we’re still a few weeks away from picking cherries in the Adelaide Hills, there’s no need to wait—grab these delicious Riverland cherries and get a taste of summer early!
Red Oak Lettuce
As the weather warms up and we turn to salads – why not try a different type of fancy lettuce to sparkle up your dishes. Red Oak lettuce has a mild, slightly sweet flavour with a tender, crispy texture and its vibrant red and green leaves not only make it visually appealing but also provide various nutritional benefits being low in calories, rich in vitamins A and K and fibre.
Strawberries
The first of the South Australian strawberries have already arrived at the markets and will increase in supply over the next few weeks. The first picks of the season are looking bright and tasting sweet so it looks like we could have an abundant season ahead. Look for SA grown in your local fruit and veg this week and taste the difference.
